Netflix‘s Michael Jackson: The Verdict began streaming on Wednesday (June 3), sparking further discussion surrounding the late King of Pop’s controversial past.
The new three-part docuseries from David Herman delves into Michael Jackson‘s 2005 trial, during which he faced child molestation allegations. Though he was found not guilty, speculation still spurs around what actually took place at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, which he abandoned following his acquittal, per People.
Michael Jackson: The Verdict is certainly not the first time that these allegations have been investigated in a documentary, or that Jackson’s life and career have been the subject of a documentary film since his passing in 2009. In 2019, HBO released Leaving Neverland, a controversial four-part docuseries that according to GQ, was ultimately removed from HBO Max following a legal battle with Jackson’s estate.
Despite the controversy, Jackson’s tremendous career and catalog still remain beloved by fans, with his life being the center of a recent biopic, Michael, starring none other than Jackson’s nephew, Jafaar Jackson, which was extremely successful at the box office.
