Walker Scobell was seemingly in for a surprise on Live with Kelly and Mark on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old Percy Jackson and the Olympians star sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on this morning’s episode, where Consuelos brought up Scobell’s recent driver’s test, which apparently did not go so well.
“Listen, I don’t want to bring up bad news Walker, but we gotta talk about this. You recently just had your driver’s test,” he said. “How’d it go?”
After glancing offstage with a smile on his face, Scobell asked, “You talked to my mom about this?”
While Consuelos claimed he did not, Ripa teased that she did.
“Just so you know, all we moms talk to each other, yes,” she joked.
Scobell got the opportunity to explain himself, teasing that he “do[es]n’t think you should have to parallel park.” Ripa and Consuelos agreed, as the latter provided the young actor some consolation.
“But you passed the writing portion, yes?” Consuelos asked, noting that’s “the hardest part.”
Scobell elaborated, “Oh yeah, I did the writing portion great. I was on the line a little bit for parallel parking.”

Consuelos asked, “Did you hit a cone?”
“No, I didn’t,” Scobell replied. “I’m still mad about this.”
After Scobell shared that he took his driver’s test in Pennsylvania, Consuelos hilariously sounded off on the Keystone State, urging PA to let up on Scobell.
“You know historically, they have the worst drivers in the world!” he said. “PA, what are you doing? Give the kid a break!”
Ripa also pointed out that “most cars now parallel park themselves.”
“You just hit that button and it sort of backs in,” she added.
“I need to get one of those,” Scobell quipped.
As for when Scobell will be able to retake his test, he said this was “the first time [he] went home” in a while due to being away while filming the Disney+ series.
“I started filming back in the beginning of August, and I hadn’t been home since the middle of July,” he shared. “I had dreams about getting my driver’s license while we were working for, like, the last nine months. There were a couple days when I wasn’t working and they ended up being close to the weekend, so I ended up getting to go home for the first time in however many months.”
Scobell recalled that he “was freaking out about” the test and he “couldn’t sleep.”
“And then I got there. You drive around the block, and then you parallel park,” he continued. “And then it was on the line, and then I failed immediately.”
Consuelos offered up some advice for Scobell to practice while on set.
“Walker, what you need to do is get with the transpo guys on set. In between scenes, ‘Show me how to parallel park,’” he said. “It’s a science. Once you get it, you can’t unlearn it.”
