That’s that me espresso (martini).
On Monday’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa read from this year’s list of the most popular festive drinks in the U.S., noting that “Connecticut, Maryland, and New Jersey stood out for their interest in the espresso martini.” The studio audience offered up a round of applause, surprising Ripa and Mark Consuelos with their enthusiasm.
“Really? You like an espresso martini?” Ripa asked.
Consuelos revealed that he’s “never had one” before, leading him to ask some questions about the beverage.
“Is it like a Kahlúa and cream?” he asked. “Because you got me there.”
Ripa replied, “It’s like coffee and I believe… vodka? I don’t know. Guys, it’s good? You say it’s good?”
The audience continued to promote espresso martinis, furthering Consuelos’ intrigue.
“You think it’s awesome?” Consuelos inquired. “And what time can you enjoy this drink?”
After the audience member told him “any time,” Ripa quipped, “She’s on one right now!”
Live EP Michael Gelman teased from off camera, “She had one with her bagel.”
After Consuelos struggled to remember the name of a “chocolate tequila” or an “espresso tequila” drink he said he’s also never had before, Ripa was eventually reminded of a drink that she used to enjoy with Consuelos’ mother.
“What was it your mom and I used to hit together?” she asked Consuelos.
He replied, “Bailey’s. Bailey’s and not a lot of cream. Just Bailey’s.”
Ripa shared, “We would put a sensible, like a large ice cube in a rocks glass, and just pour it like a milkshake. And then we would sit there and go through all our grievances. That was fun.”
