Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role as vigilante Frank Castle in a new special presentation from Marvel.
Disney dropped a brand new trailer (which can be watched at the top of this page) for the upcoming streaming special The Punisher: One Last Kill, which shows Bernthal’s Punisher on his own adventure after breaking out of prison in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1.
The official synopsis for The Punisher: One Last Kill reads, “As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight.”
While living in hiding, Frank is clearly still haunted by the loss of his daughter Lisa Barbara and the guilt of what he’s done. But the trailer promises Frank is going to unleash the Punisher one last time in this bloody Marvel special. “To find peace, he will lose it,” the trailer teases.
It also reveals Jason R. Moore will be returning as Curtis Hoyle. Frank seems to be haunted by visions of him. “Do you think God’s gonna forgive us for the things we’ve done? Not sure about me. But you? You ain’t got a fucking chance,” Hoyle tells Frank with a laugh.
Now fans know why Bernthal did not reprise his role for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. But Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, revealed, “The Punisher TV special really does connect into the time and place that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 takes place.”
Bernthal co-wrote the special with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who also directed it. He said The Punisher: One Last Kill follows a “really special” story.
“It’s the visceral, psychologically complex, unforgiving, no-holds-barred version of Frank where he’s going to turn his back to the audience,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And nothing is easy and all violence has a cost, and we’re going to see that cost.”
