Photo: Kane Skennar / © Netflix / courtesy Everett Collection Charlize Theron returns to her roots as an action star in Netflix’s new survivalist thriller Apex, starring opposite Taron Egerton. The new feature stars Theron as an adrenaline junkie who, after the loss of her husband, returns to the Australian outback for a solo trip that turns violent when she crosses paths with a serial killer (Egerton) who cons her into a cat-and-mouse chase through Wandarra National Park. DECIDER’s John Serba described this as a “classic Tight 90,” writing, “The film follows through on a fairly simple premise, jumping right to the action so we can quickly acclimate to its warm-to-hot temps, with Kormakur maintaining a level of velocity in the final hour that doesn’t allow the sweat to dry.”
