The first three episodes of Furious are now streaming on Hulu.

The new crime thriller series made its highly-anticipated debut on Monday, July 27, and fans are obsessed. Created by New Girl creator Elizabeth Meriwether, the series is inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow.

The plot follows FBI agent Alice Black (played by Emmy Rossum), who is tracking a female serial killer, Catherine (Lola Petticrew), who targets wealthy, abusive men. It’s a story of revenge, and the two play a game of cat-and-mouse. However, as their paths and past traumas start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins the blur.

The limited series stars Emmy Rossum, who is no stranger to intense story lines. She made her debut to the screen over two decades ago, and has since become a household staple. In addition to on screen acting, she has released music, and made her Off-Broadway debut in 2024 in Walden. If you watched Furious and became a fan, or maybe you’re wondering why Emmy Rossum looks so familiar, here are six Emmy Rossum movies and TV shows you have to watch next.

    1. Fiona Gallagher from the show Shameless holding a glass of whiskey.

Probably one of Emmy Rossum’s most iconic roles to date is Fiona Gallagher in Shameless. The comedy-drama series ran for 11 series from 2011 to 2021, and was an American adaptation of the British series of the same name. It has become a classic amongst fans and gained commercial success. The series follows the lives of theGallagher family, who live on the South Side of Chicago. Their father, Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) is absent and an alcoholic, and Fiona has stepped into the caretaker role for her five younger siblings amidst poverty and scams.

    2. Emmy Rossum as Christine in "The Phantom of the Opera" (2004), looking distraught with tears in her eyes.

To all the theater kids, this one is for you. Rossum played the lead role of Christine in the 2004 adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Phantom of the Opera. The plot follows the Phantom (Gerard Butler), a musical genius who haunts the Paris Opera House and is obsessed with Christine, a beautiful soprano. On the surface, it’s a love story, but it explores themes of obsession and control.

After leaving Shameless in 2018, Rossum went on to star and executive produce Peacock‘s 2022 miniseries, Angelyne. Inspired by a feature in The Hollywood Reporter, Angelyne follows a blonde bombshell’s rise to fame as the Billboard queen in the 1980s. In the 2010s, journalist Jeff Glaser (Alex Karpovsky) is trying to uncover Angelyne’s true identity and past.

The science fiction disaster film, The Day After Tomorrow, is the story of paleoclimatologist, Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) who predicts global warming will cause a rapid climate shift. After being ignored, a melting polar ice plunges the planet into the next ice age. Jack tries to save his son and his friends who are stuck in New York during the super-storm. Rossum plays Laura Chapman, a love interest for star Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays Jack’s son Sam.

    5. The Crowded Room

Furious is just one of many thriller series Rossum has starred in. In 2023, she starred alongside Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried in the Apple TV limited series The Crowded Room. Based on the true story of Billy Milligan, the series follows a young man who was arrested for his part in a New York City shooting in 1979. Through a series of interviews, he reveals to the audience and the interrogator his mysterious past, which leads to a life-altering revelation.

A romance gothic fantasy? Yes please! This movie tells the love story between Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich) and newcomer to their small town, Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert). Lena belongs to a family of “castors,” witches, who are facing a dangerous generational curse. On her 16th birthday, the forces of either light or dark will claim her. Rossum plays Lena’s cousin, who let the dark takeover when she was 16, and became a rebellious, dark-sided siren.
