If you’re looking for some NFL football to watch today, we’ve got some bad news: There are no NFL games on Sunday, August 16.
The first full week of the 2026 NFL preseason wrapped up Saturday night, with the Dallas Cowboys facing the Seattle Seahawks in the final game of Week 1. The league will take Sunday off before returning Thursday for another round of preseason action.
Fortunately, football fans won’t have to wait long. Preseason Week 2 kicks off Thursday, August 20, with 16 games scheduled across four days.
So, when is the next NFL game? And which teams will be playing next week? Here’s what to know about today’s NFL schedule and the upcoming slate of preseason games.
Are There Any NFL Games On Today, Sunday, August 16?
No. There are no NFL football games scheduled for Sunday, August 16.
That’s because Preseason Week 1 was played entirely from Thursday, August 13 through Saturday, August 15. All 32 teams got their first preseason game under their belts, leaving Sunday as a rare football-free day before Week 2 begins.
If you’re already wondering when you can get back to preseason football, the wait is only a few days.
