The recently released teaser for the fourth season of Netflix’s hit political thriller The Diplomat has us excited for another round of high-stakes intrigue.
“I’m not trying to get out of the marriage; I’m trying to get back in,” Keri Russell’s Kate says in the new footage. “We do high highs and really low lows.”
Talk about the understatement of the year! Created by Debora Cahn and debuting on Netflix in 2023, the third season of The Diplomat was released in October 2025. The drama has been a critical and commercial success for the streamer, earning multiple Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress, Lead Actor, and Supporting Actress nods for Russell, Rufus Sewell, and Allison Janney.
What exactly can we expect from Season 4? For starters, the official synopsis notes that “two marriages threaten to eat each other alive” and that “one catastrophic moment” shatters the fragile peace Kate brokered between the US and UK. “While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.”
